As I mentioned in my privies post, Stampede!, I love to run on gravel country roads and the road I described was the same one I ran on last night. However, for this run, I decided to run my "nature" loop. I start on the road surrounded by cattle pastures but when the road turns south, it becomes a minimum maintenance road and the land surrounding it turns into State owned wildlife reservation land.
The scenery is hilly grassy plains for the first mile or two and then it turns into marsh conditions. The road accents down a hill into the marsh landscape and is quickly surrounded by trees, tall grass, and some ponds. I love running through this part because it is very quite. The only sounds I hear are the birds chirping or animals rustling about. Eventually, I have to turn to go back east at the next intersection.
The road heading east is surrounded by the same landscape. While running on this road last evening, I saw about 5 whitetail deer. All of them were pretty close to the road as I ran by so I was able to get a good look at them as they bounded away. They really are a beautiful creature. I have run this loop many times and every time I have run it, I have seen deer (hence Whitetail Road).
